Lanre Haastrup is an internationally-experienced Lawyer, qualified in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He holds ICA Diploma in Anti-Money Laundering, with 15 years experience in the legal field. Mr. Haastrup was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2014, after which he returned to the United Kingdom and began employment at Nathan Aaron Solicitors in the firm’s financial crime, Civil Litigation, and the Immigration Department. He is a registered Foreign Qualified Lawyer, registered with the Solicitors Regulation Authority of the United Kingdom and a Barrister at Law of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Mr. Haastrup has represented clients in financial crime cases bordering on money laundering charges, and represented clients numerous times at the famous Central Criminal Court (The Old Bailey) in London on asset confiscation matters and various other criminal charges.
He has extensive experience in UK Immigration law and often appear at the UK's Upper Tribunal. One of his Magnus opus is the case of Baihinga (R.22: Human Rights Appeal [2018] UKUT where he successfully argued on the rights of appellants as they relate to the correct interpretation of s82 of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002. This case remains the leading authority on the rights of appeal to the Tribunal on human rights grounds.
Mr. Haastrup is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and he has the ability and dexterity to handle complex arbitration matters including cross–border disputes. He is proficient in the UK and Nigerian Arbitration laws. Furthermore, Mr. Haastrup is a member of the International Compliance Association (UK) with a Diploma in International Anti-Money Laundering. He has a deep and practical knowledge of Money Laundering law. Mr. is a Special Partner at the law firm of Ojoge, Omileye and Partners where he manages the firm’s Financial Crime and International Commercial Law divisions in the UK.
